Through the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Marney (and anyone else who practices The Art) is a conduit and facilitator for healing.
Marney discovered JSJ in 2017 during her graduate school experience at Brooklyn College, and used it as a NYC public school teacher to empower students and fellow teachers to harmonize strong emotions. She also received a profound JSJ healing experience in 2019.
Jin Shin Jyutsu (a registered trademark) , or "JSJ", is the Japanese healing art of harmonizing energy using the fingers. This ancient art was re-discovered in the early 1900's by Japanese imperial court physician Jiro Murai. Murai was granted access to and studied ancient Japanese imperial medical texts to accomplish this. He then shared his discoveries with his Japanese-American student, Mary Burmeister. When Mary announced her plans to return to the U.S., Murai asked Mary to share the gift of Jin Shin Jyutsu here. Upon her return in the 1960's, she brought it to the San Fernando Valley. In so doing, Mary became America's local JSJ founder. She practiced in Los Angeles, and then in Arizona until her death in 2008.
Although there are differences between the two healing arts, JSJ is most easily analogized to reiki energy work, with the hands placed on specific points in the energy meridians. It's a unique energy modality whereby one can either practice self-help holds, see a practitioner for a choreographed sequence of "flows"(hand placements), or practice both options. Either way, hands serve as "jumper cables" in JSJ - the ultimate natural energy harmonization tools.
JSJ is also a favorite of nurses. Not only does it enable them to calm themselves in the midst of their work, but JSJ also empowers their patients to self-soothe when fear and stress levels are high and soothing is urgently needed. There has been impressive research conducted regarding the impact of JSJ on nurses' stress levels and career satisfaction, as well as on patient peace of mind connected to wellness outcomes. Happily, learning the art of JSJ provides nurses, LAcs, and LMTs continuing education units (CEUs) as well as comfort!
