JIn Shin Jyutsu ("JSJ") is an ancient healing art that restores and balances energy in the mind, body and spirit. Recent physics discoveries lend an understanding of what our ancestors understood about the energy that powers all life. As long as we're alive, we can measure it in our heart and brain activity. When we die, there's nothing left in our bodies to measure.
When our energy becomes unbalanced from navigating this life, we may experience symptoms which manifest physically, spiritually and/or emotionally. Not only does JSJ help rebalance us via touch, but it also revitalizes us. All of this is done, quite simply, with the hands.
JSJ dates back thousands of years, as we have learned from ancient Japanes Imperial Palace records. Even before the birth of Buddha or Moses, JSJ existed. It was finally recorded in the Kojiki in Japan in 712 C.E.
Although the oral tradition was lost for a time, Master Jiro Murai rediscovered it through his analysis of the Kojiki in the early 20th Century. His life was dedicated to researching and organizing this healing art in writing. In 1940, he met Mary Burmeister, who became his student and eventually brought JSJ to America in 1960 as a gift from Master Murai to the American people. Ms. Burmeister also dedicated her life to the study, teaching and practice of JSJ.
You will be fully clothed and lying on a comortable table, face-up, during your 60-minute JSJ session. After reading your pulses, Marney will understand which series of JSJ holds (called "flows") your body needs. She will hold two (of a possible 26) energy centers on your body simultaneously until the rhythm and texture of the pulses in those two locations synchronize. Then, she will continue to the next indicated step in the series of holds.
People often enter a deep sleep-relaxation state, do breath work, or sometimes prefer to talk through what they experience. This is an elegantly simple yet highly profound healing art that lets the body balance itself through "jumper cabling" using the hands.
Marney likes to end each session with self-help suggestions that her clients can do on their own, between sessions. Receiving a flow is a beautiful experience, and there is also much self-help that clients can do on their own.
You could expect any of the following and more from a session:
Session frequency can range anywhere between once a month all the way up to an "Intensive Series" (twice daily for 5 days) for bigger projects.
Marney was introduced to JSJ while earning her Masters in 2016 as a NYC Biology teacher, and implented it straightaway in her Brooklyn classroom. Since then, her JSJ studies have included 5-day in-person classes, a mentorship class, numerous special topics classes, many online classes and online study groups through the pandemic (her in-person NYC "bubble" also received flows during lockdown), and a year-long Advanced Unpublished Flows course. She officially became a practitioner in 2025, and is grateful to be a conduit for the healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
